When he decided that it was the right time to enter the property market, 29 year old Luke Little purchased a 707m² lot at Harvest on which to build a four bedroom home.
“Lots of friends and family have bought or built a new home over the last few years. Several friends are living nearby in Waterford Country. When I saw that the Harvest site was under construction I thought I’d be different and build here,” he said.
Luke is a long term Thornton resident. He attended Thornton Public School and Francis Greenway High School and currently lives with family close to Harvest.
“I’ve been saving for a while now and Harvest seemed like a good opportunity. It’s come along a bit earlier than I was planning but it’s a good spot,” said Luke.
“I never considered moving away from the area. All my friends and family are here. Maitland has everything I need and Sydney is only 90 minutes away if I want to head down there,” he said.
From his first visit to the site, long before the Stage One roads were constructed, Luke was impressed with plans for the community.
“I liked what I saw even back when Harvest was really just grass and dirt. It’s been well-planned and you could tell that everything had been thought about,” he said.
“Harvest felt like home from the first time I visited, when really there was nothing at all on site,” said Luke.
Luke spent a couple of weekends visiting display homes, comparing house designs and inclusion packages to ensure he selected a design that would suit his lifestyle and offered value for money. He has decided to build McDonald Jones’ Havana home design.
As a first home buyer Luke is eligible for the First Home Owner Grant of $15,000. The NSW Government established the First Home Owner Grant (New Homes) Scheme to assist eligible first home owners to purchase a new home or build their home. The Scheme only applies to new homes and will reduce to $10,000 on 1 January 2016.
“The Grant will definitely be a big help. The fact that the Grant is only available for new homes is the reason why I decided to build rather than buy an existing home,” said Luke.
Luke is now keen to commence the building process.
“I’m looking forward to the house being built and to my views over the duck pond! It’s going to be a good little spot,” he said.
